Improving Lives Through Education

Re-Elect Lee McDougal to the Chaffey College Governing Board to continue the legacy of offering a high quality education to our communities. Lee has served the Chaffey College District for 20 years and has led the college to be recognized as one of the Top 10 community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute.

A believer in educational access for all, Lee believes in innovative educational practices and fiscal responsibility and accountability. The recent passage of Measure P, led by the Governing Board, ensures that an affordable college education is attainable and possible for all of the community's citizens and residents, regardless of where they came from or their status.

Throughout his youth, Lee understood the importance of public service.
“Growing up, I needed access to public services and I always appreciated the people who were willing to help me,” he said. “That’s why I decided that I wanted to make my life about helping others too. I know that some people need support to survive and the idea that I could help…it set a fire in me.”

Lee served the City of Montclair for more than 35 years, the last 18 years as city manager. During that time, he worked with the city to try and improve the college attendance rate for the local high school. “We knew we had amazing students but they were not going to college,” he said. “After talking with the families, many did not see college as a reality, and I knew I had to do something to change that.”

His hard work and determination resulted in Montclair to College (formerly known as Online to College) being created, offering students from Montclair High School scholarships to attend Chaffey College with all costs paid, including money for books. The program continues to thrive and Lee hopes to bring similar programs to the City of Fontana.

“I believe in Chaffey College,” he said. “I went to a community college, I sent my sons to Chaffey College and I have had the privilege of seeing the amazing impacts the college, its faculty and staff have done over the last 20 years to improve the lives of students and our serving cities. My goal in running for re-election this March 2020, is to continue serving where I know it makes a difference.”

Lee had a key role in leading the passage of Measure P in November 2018, which will result in $700 million in bond funding to help the college grow. “I know the voters support the work we are doing and I want to see us grow in our cities. I look to these same voters to support my efforts to continue leading in a role that I love. I want to see the buildings we envision become a reality, I want to see students continue to learn. I am not here for any other agenda than for student success. To me, our students, faculty and staff always come first.”
